Conflict between Israel and Iran
The conflict between Israel and Iran has been on a low boil for decades. Since its Islamic revolution in 1979, Iran has rejected Israel’s very existence and worked to undermine it by arming and training anti-Israeli militant groups. Israel has used its military to disrupt those efforts and to thwart Iran’s nuclear program, which it regards as an existential threat. The two sides have repeatedly struck blows against each other without taking responsibility, Iran often using its proxies. Now, an unprecedented act of overt aggression on April 13 — a massive missile and drone attack on Israel from Iran — has raised concerns the two countries will escalate to all-out war. Here’s your guide to understanding the situation.

Minimal. Iran telegraphed its assault in advance, giving Israel and its allies time to prepare. In the event, Israel’s fighter jets and air defense systems, together with those of the US and UK, intercepted the vast majority of the more than 300 drones and cruise and ballistic missiles deployed toward Israel. According to the Israeli military, the only impacts were the serious wounding of a 10-year-old girl and minor damage to an army base.

Boy Sets Mother on Fire
One Musa Ceesay of Sukuta allegedly locked his mother in the house and set it on fire.
According to the information gathered, Musa came to the house (two rooms and a parlor). He shared the house with his mother with his girlfriend, and his mother asked the girl to leave.
Musa Ceesay left the house afterward and went to buy petrol. Upon arriving at the compound, while his mother was in the house, he put a padlock on the door, poured petrol, set the house on fire, and ran away.

The neighbors were able to rescue the mother before the fire spread throughout the house. I spoke to the mother while she was at the Sukuta police station. She informed me that she had sustained some burns and wounds.
