ORIGIN OF CHILDREN’S DAY

The Origin of Children’s Day can be traced back to the following:

In the year 1857, Rev Charles Leonard held a special service for children in his church at Chelsea, Massachester marking the beginning of Children’s day while in 1920 the Republic of Turkey became the first country to officially declare Children’s day a national holiday on April 23,in the year 1925,

The World Conference on child welfare in Geneva proclaimed International Children’s day on June 1 while in 1954 the United Nations General Assembly adopted the idea of Universal Children’s Day on November 20

In 1959 the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the child on Nov 20,1959

Nigeria, as a nation set aside the 27th day of May of every year as Children’s day

With the above history,it is pertinent to know who a child is

A child is a human being between the stage of birth and puberty typically between the ages of 0 to 12

Children are vulnerable and dependent on adults for care, support and guidance. They are also curious, playful and constantly learning and developing physically , emotionally and cognitively

The United Nations Convention on the Right of the Child defines a child as every human being below age 18 years unless under the law applicable to the child, majority is attained earlier.

A child is important to a couple especially in the African context hence children are adored, celebrated, no wonder therefore , Nigeria as a nation set aside the 27th day of May every year to commemorate the dayhistorically, because our children is celebrated,

It is my understanding that children are like star’s, they shine in their unique ways

They hold future in their hands and it is our duty to nurture and protect their dreams.

It is the serious obligation for parents (Father,&Mother) to give their children instructionand correction that are necessary part of upbringing

Parent should be examples of good conductor caring more for their children’s general welfarism

Similarly, children are worth to our society and adequate care should be given to them if they are to be useful and productive for our nation, children who can feed for themselves, contribute meaningfully towards excellence development of our country, Nigeria

At this juncture, my candid advice for you is to be more responsive, dedicated, patriotism ,shun any act of behavior such as Cultism Hooliganism Robbery etc that can tarnish your family name and our country image both internally and externally, I wish all and sundry

Parent should also protect their children from ungodly influences and immoral companions that dominate the present world

Thanks and God bless you all,

Up children,up oyo,state ,up Nigeria

Thanks for listening.
