Oyo LG Poll: Citizen writes open letter to OYSIEC chairman

Published

on

The Local Government election held on the 27th of April 2024 did not go as some people expected. And to some it is not new and can never change in Nigeria system of governance.

The result of the election shows that the incumbent party in the state cleared all the 33 local governments seat.

Even though the governor of Oyo state, Engineer Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde vowed not to meddle in the business of the  election but to rather make it free, fair and credible.

An open letter circulating on social media sighted by our correspondent shows how some people, believed to be opposition are aggrieved over the outcome of the election. The open letter read thus :

Open Letter to OYSIEC Chairman Aare Isiaka Abiola Olagunju SAN!

Why did you compromise your integrity and hereafter with what will vanish?
Why did you not insist and tenaciously stick to the rule of law and due process?
You have lost all spiritual goodness and moral right to criticise any judgement of any court in Nigeria.
You have lost all moral authority to challenge any election in this country.
You can’t be a guest on radio to be asked to comment on good governance in this country.
Imagine if you had resigned and refused to bow to any pressures to announce the results of elections you yourself knew did not hold or marred with irregularities that were so manifest such that no reasonable electoral umpire would accept the results.
Why did you not remember your family? Why didn’t you think of tomorrow of your children?
Imagine if you had summoned courage to say you are a Muslim and you would not abandon Islamic injunction on justice and fairness.
Imagine if you had said you would not compromise your hereafter for wordly gains.
Let me ask you, are you poor? If you had resigned, would anger kill you?
You lost a very big opportunity to write your name in gold.
If you had refused to announce the results of that elections, your name would entered the Guinness Book of Records.
If you had resigned , you would have made history as an electrical umpire who refused to compromise.
If you had resigned , the international jobs would have come after you.

If you had resigned, you would have bagged national merit awards.

If you had done the right thing by resigning the federal government would have given you a national assignment..But you thought chairmanship of OYSIEC is the best and highest public office as a SAN.

You lack principles, you lack integrity and you rubbish your honour.

Shame on you.

Court affirms Abure, Labour Party disowns caretaker chairman

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Tuesday, declared Julius Abure as the substantive national Chairman of the Labour Party (LP).

Justice Emeka Nwite had, in a judgement affirmed the Abure-led leadership and the March 2024 Nnewi convention of the party that produced the national leadership of the party.

The court further ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise Abure as the legitimate chairman, overriding the Commission’s earlier stance that Abure’s leadership was invalid.

According to the Judge, “I am of the view that and so hold that the basis of these cogent verifiable documents, the defendants attempt to impeach the validity of the leadership of the plaintiff fails.
